Swedish Massage

Swedish massage in progress

Swedish massage is one of the most highly requested types of massage therapy since it often includes techniques that are calming, soothing, and are quite possibly the most relaxing. Swedish massage increases the circulation of blood and lymph which cleanses and nourishes soft tissues within muscles and the skin. Clients will often fall asleep during this type of massage or can even fall into a state of meditation once their minds and bodies have been able to relax.

Deep Tissue Massage

Make a deep tissue massage appointment at Mindful Healing Massage today!

Deep tissue massage doesn’t necessarily pertain to an increased pressure but it often includes a firmer touch. It is considered therapeutic in a different aspect than Swedish massage. While Swedish is traditionally relaxing, deep tissue can be a bit uncomfortable as the work creates micro-tears within the fascia that are filled with elastin and collagen. It can take up to 72-hours for the client to feel more flexible within the muscle and increase their range of motion. It also requires more time for the therapist and client to work together as it is often performed in a slow, lengthening manner within the client’s comfort level to retain muscles and prevent muscle contraction.

Sports Massage / Medical / or Orthopedic Massage

Sports massage in progress

Sports massage typically involves a lot of muscle lengthening and stretching of the muscles. This can include traction on the limbs, light bending and stretching of the fascia and muscle, or even a deeper stretch for those of athletic ability. This massage is recommended for any athlete or client wishing to increase their range of motion and flexibility. Medical and Orthopedic massage pay more specific attention to site-specific areas that can be inflamed, contracted, and have been previously injured. The goal is to get the client out of discomfort and back to a state of healing.

Aromatherapy Massage

Aromatherapy is a common form of aromatic massage and/or essential oil based massage that not only heightens your sense of smell but can have several different impacts on your body. It can help you feel differently within your physiology, psychologically, and spiritually. Based on which scent you choose and the way you choose to use it (diffusing a scent, rubbing on different areas of the body, etc.), you can feel relaxed, sedated, invigorated, energized, and even fight off germs and disease. Mindful Healing Massage uses doTERRA oils that are 100% essential, meaning they are made from plants and have deep healing benefits.

DōTERRA aromatherapy can be added on to ANY massage therapy session for a $10 upgrade.

Prenatal Massage

Prenatal massage is one of the only safe forms of massage therapy for an expecting mother. It is limited to a one-hour massage within Mindful Healing Massage so as not to over-exhaust the mother’s muscles. For a pregnant woman, this can be an incredibly relaxing experience or a form of getting healthy or staying healthy. Since all massage promotes circulation, this helps keep the baby healthy, blood pressure down, and move the blood and lymph to keep potential pregnancy risks at bay. It also promotes relaxation for both the mother and the baby.

Myofascial Release

Myofascial release massage technique

Myofascial release is a hands-on and intricate technique that involves applied and sustained pressure to the fascia. Our bodies aren’t just made of muscle, they are made of connective tissue and fascia that needs to be manipulated in a gentle manner to help relieve the pain and or hypertonicity that can be found when a person goes through a certain amount of physical or emotional trauma, surgical procedures and/or injuries that have created myofascial restrictions. It can even help with inflammatory responses. The goal is to sustain the pressure into the connective tissue to restore your range of motion and reduce or eliminate pain and is a great alternative to deep tissue since it involves a gentler touch.

Lymphatic Drainage

Lymphatic drainage is a type of massage that uses gentle pressure and fluid motions to move excess or stagnant fluid away from the lymph nodes to reduce swelling, pain, and general inflammation. It is most effective for people that are fighting cancer, have gotten out of surgery, or are fighting an inflammatory disease. It is also effective for those getting over a cold or flu, have minor aches and pains, or low energy. When your glands are swollen, you want the excessive lymph gently pushed away from your nodes and dispersed evenly so that you can eliminate some of it from your body altogether.
